|Clothed in Winter Blues|

“Visualize this thing that you want, see it, feel it, believe in it. Make your mental blueprint, and begin to build.”

 –Robert Collier

For me, my “thing” that I’ve wanted was my own fashion blog. I (envisioned) it. I (felt) it was a perfect outlet for me to express my thrill in grasping the beauty of words to describe my adoration for styling. I (believed) in faith and the encouragements from family, friends, readers and myself. At the beginning of it all, I felt like I was running at the front of a race, and as time became a precious commodity, I fell behind. Although my plans to consistently blog didn’t occur, I continued and still am in the process of making my mental blueprint of how I desire my blog to spring up and grow. I’ve already began to build, and am even more enthusiastic to see how Inhagongju will thrive beyond my own expectations.

–Winter Blues–

How quickly have Christmas and the ringing in of the New Year gone by? The awaited jolly times of celebrations, gatherings and gifts have gently brushed past our days of December and January. The month long winter break has flown by all too quickly and I’m not sure if I’m ready to settle into a new semester just yet… So to make a tribute to my interpretation of the winter blues, I have styled up an outfit that centralizes on hues of blue and layering to clench onto warmth.

When I was choosing this outfit, I revolved the entire look off of the royal blue beanie. I wanted to show a pop of color as the main accent piece, along with a pair of navy leather platform sneakers. These pieces capture attention, yet fashion is about trying new concepts and not only feeling bold, but looking the part too. This styling can be a casual, yet semi-formal look depending on the occasion. I especially played around with lots of layers to embark through Chicago’s mighty winds. The oversized dress shirt works as a dress when buttoned all the way down, but I let it flare out half way to let it flow effortlessly on top of the pencil skirt giving it a distinct look compared to the traditional. Since the button down shirt and pencil skirt display a rather formal vibe, I threw on a casual graphic crewneck sweatshirt. As the day progressed and the gentle glow of the sun grew dim, coldness continued to sneak into the evening…so I wore a thin padded jacket inside of a navy blue pinstripe coat, which made the attire retain its original semi-formal appeal. Then to complement the upper half of the ensemble, and to avoid my toes from freezing, I wore plain grey socks on top of the stockings. It’s possible to bundle up from head to toe with layers upon layers and maintain a chic appearance.

So, yes. The cheery holiday season might be over, but let’s not cradle ourselves with the winter blues.  With only two months of the cold stinging temperatures left, shall we appreciate and embrace the concept of over-layering with the time remaining?
